Eton Choral Courses 2005
The courses now 25 years old, were set up to offer coaching and advice to prospective Oxbridge choral and organ scholars, but the concentrated and varied performing experience is of equal benefit to anyone who enjoys singing no matter what goal is in mind for the future. The courses are concentrated and fun, and an ideal opportunity to perform choral music to a very high standard with like-minded musicians. The age range is from 16 to 20, but others just over 20 are welcome to apply.
                                          Singers
Within an intensive, instructive and enjoyable week of singing, there are classes in sight-reading, aural tests and consort singing, and advice on choral scholarships is given a high priority. As well as the focus on choral music , each student receives singing lessons from resident teachers who are experienced specialists of the developing voice. Other aspects, such as physical and emotional tensions, ad the psychology of performance, are explored with help from visiting teacher of the Alexander Technique.

The main emphasis of the courses lies in the choir made up of all participants, so spaces have to be limited to about 20 sopranos, 12 altos and counter-tenors, 12 tenors, and 16 basses. Mezzo-sopranos are asked to sing alto in the choir.
                                         Organists
The courses provide a unique opportunity for organists to develop their accompanying experience by working with an excellent choir under expert guidance. They also have their own sessions on repertoire , improvisation and other keyboard skills, and gain valuable insight into singing techniques from the singing workshops and master classes.

Although organists are welcome at all courses, the fourth is specially recommended as the 'Organists' Course', with more accompanied repertoire , a resident tutor , David Goode and tuition with visiting teacher, Colm Cary.
                              Accompanists and Observers
Each course can also accommodate two accompanists and two observers, especially adults who would like to extend their knowledge and experience of young voices

                                       Eton College
At Eton College, accommodation is provided in individual study-bedrooms of two of the boarding houses. Meals are taken in the 15th-century College Hall or Bekynton, the school's main refectory. Some courses end with a barbecue on Queen's Eyot, an upstream island in the Thames.
                                    Malvern College
Accommodation and meals will be provided in boarding houses and there will be a barbecue at the end of the course. The course will make full use of the school's extensive musical facilities.
